http://www.examiner.com/article/irish-cross-embedded-mars-rock-opportunity-rover-photos-ancient-symbol
In one of the strangest photographic finds during the exploration of Mars, what looks like an Irish cross has been revealed in a NASA photo of the rust-red surface. Not only what appears to an Irish cross, actually, but an enclosing circle as well. It is a familiar symbol known worldwide on planet Earth. So what is it doing on Mars?
UFO Sightings Daily reported Oct. 12 that the image resembling an Irish cross was picked up in a photograph taken by NASA's Opportunity rover, which has now been on Mars for more than a decade, in July. The cross-inside-a-circle imprint on the Martian surface was captured by the rover's Microscopic Imager camera.
Scott C. Waring of UFOSightingsDaily.com, suggests that the image can be one of three things: A tiny fossil creature, a unique crystal formation, or micro technology. He then explains why the first two possibilities are unlikely.
"It may be a fossil of a micro creature, but the ring around it makes it unlikely," Waring posts. It has very few similarities to crystal, but again the ring causes me to rule that one out, however micro technology might be the most likely. Ancient tech, especially small would be very useful to regulate plants, animals and other ecosystems to create a controlled environment. Sure Mars is dry and barren, however NASA Chief Charles Bolden said in the UK this week that Mars did have life on it and may still. Ancient micro tech would explain such an advanced world, far beyond our own."
(Bolden's actual quote was: "It is the most likely planet in our solar system, um, that had life at one time… may have life now, and we feel can definitely sustain life.” The operative term in his statement was "most likely," which in no way definitively marks a position. Waring made the case in an earlier posting that the NASA chief's hesitation and mannerisms indicate that he was hiding the truth -- which was, he surmised, that NASA has already discovered evidence of life on Mars but has yet to announce their findings. Waring could very well be correct, or he could be reading more into Bolden's comments than what was actually there.)
Of course, the image just might be a mechanical imprint of some kind. The cross-in-circle just might be the imprint of the passage of the Opportunity rover itself.
NASA has yet to comment on the latest bizarre image discovered in one of their photos taken on the Red Planet. Among those bizarre photographed images have been what looks like a statue carved out of a Martian hillside, a small rock formation that resembles a gun (or naval cannon, as one observer pointed out), and even a descending UFO. Like the odd doughnut the Curiosity rover uncovered, though, NASA appears to have had an answer for them all. (Except for the hillside statue image, which was only recently discovered -- like the Irish cross.)
Regardless, it pulls at the imagination. And if the Irish cross-like symbol is an indigenous artifact of some kind, or perhaps even some marking of an ancient bygone species, it certainly places Carl Jung's theories of universal archetypes in a more -- well, universal -- light. As was pointed out by UFO Sightings Hotspot, "The Celtic cross and Irish cross shape itself has been widely used by many ancient peoples, long before the arrival of Christianity. Its four arms were perfect for denoting the four elements, the four directions of the compass, and the four parts of man - mind, body, soul and heart. The addition of the ring around the cross has had many explanations, everything from sun worship and symbolism, to creating a shape with the cross that was well contained and aesthetically pleasing."

Rubberdonkey 10/16/2014 12:49 AM | TWO faces no less....good find Belun.
I can hear NASA and the doubters yelling now, "that's just elemental erosion from the Mars atmosphere!" lol. |
orca 10/16/2014 1:51 AM | Noooooo it's OBVIOUSLY the remnants of an ancient civilization - probably the one that gave birth to us! (Oops, there goes the Genesis story).
Here's some other proof that we humans are not alone in the universe:

And some more funny objects found on the red planet:
a ball - but they forgot to point out the shark's fin!

There's more, but that will do.

Belun 10/16/2014 12:46 PM | lmao.. the first story there, orca. How to come off as a complete nutjob and discredit your first plausible theory? Unless they're trying to get us to believe Mars and Earth were close neighbors 11,500 years ago, ust throw the disappearance of Atlantis into ti. |
Belun 10/16/2014 1:28 PM | and no.. not two faces.. the image represents what the piece of rock looks like if you were able to stand it up and the second image is how it would look if you matched the one side you can fully see to the other. |
orca 10/16/2014 4:03 PM | They really found a second face - it's at 3:35 in the video, right near the end. Good things do really come in pairs, apparently. |
Belun 10/16/2014 4:14 PM | haha that's a good one.. they only show one stone found in one location and none of the videos are more than two and a half minutes. That would surely lend credence to it being genuine if they found two. |
orca 10/16/2014 5:18 PM | Haha... sorry Belun, it would appear we were talking about different things. I thought you were referring to the video in the link I posted. I see what you mean now - nothing like finding a good clip to support your out there theories.... and yes, I mean nothing like :) |
Belun 10/16/2014 5:59 PM | oh sorry.. yeah it was a reply to RD's earlier post.. should have mentioned..
anyway.. i saw the "new" plateau pics high res from NASA of the original face and thought they actually looked computer generated.. still, it's unlikely an ancient civilization would carve such a thing into a plateau top. It probably looks generated just because it has such high detail... |
Rubberdonkey 10/17/2014 10:03 PM | Yes, I got that Belun, stand the rock up, take the half face and reverse it to make the other side of the face. Look on top of the face, in the blueish area.

orca 10/19/2014 5:00 AM | More Mars News:
An extremely rare celestial event will play out on Sunday night, with an ancient comet hurtling narrowly past Mars, prompting observing spacecraft to take evasive action.
The comet, called Siding Spring – or more formally as C/2013 A1 – will pass within 140,000km of Mars at a speed of around 56km a second. This distance is equivalent to a comet passing at a third of the distance between the Earth and the moon.
Siding Spring is named after the New South Wales observatory where the comet’s path was first spotted by astronomer Rob McNaught in January last year.
Dr Michael Brown, an astronomer at Monash University, said the hurtling comet’s fly-past of Mars is “extremely rare”.
“It’s the closest passing of a planet we’ve seen since a comet crashed into Jupiter around 20 years ago,” he said. “It’s lucky we have a flotilla of spacecraft near Mars so we can take pictures. It’s a useful coincidence, scientifically.”
Complete story at:

Unfortunately, you need a telescope to see it, but there will hopefully be some good pics coming from NASA and other sources very soon.
