Never too old to learn something new.

I don't know how I managed to get into my fifties without hearing about this guy till a couple of months ago; especially since he has been around since I was a kid. Even more strange since he is more popular in South Africa and Australia than his own country.

I missed seeing him in concert, the last show was last night, and I'm kicking myself.

Lovely man, amazing talent and great story.

A couple of samples for those who may not know him:

LOL - I'm not sure Denee, and to be honest it doesn't really matter to me. I'm just impressed by the guy - his lack of concern for material things and humility. Apparently he still lives in a run down shack he bought in his home town of Detroit for $50, and gives most of his money away. Searching for Sugarman is the title of an Academy award movie that was made about him.

To me he sounds a lot like Dylan, except he can sing ;-)

Anyways, after that movie was made there has been some interest in him in the States; prior to that virtually none.

My first impression is that he's no Santana. The music is passable as a bar act at best. However, the lyrics are the body of the work and he's a great writer. Couple that with being a selfless humanitarian who didn't sell out and that's very cool.
