Profile pictures - Every game on the internet allows players to use some sort of profile picture or avatar.... except AcroChallenge. You are the world's lone holdout. I appreciate the spirit of resistance, but its time to join the rest of the internet. Profile pictures create a bond between players and the game. It's relatable and relevant to a player. It brings a personal touch to the gaming experience. Steam allows people to upload profile pictures to their account (gasp!). You could access the Steam database.
Speed bonus points - this topic comes up often in chat on pretty much every acro site I play. There are tons of players who miss this feature and nobody includes it in the game anymore.
Hall of Fame - Outstanding acro submissions need to be displayed on the landing screen. The first thing players do when they join the game is see a feed of the daily/weekly/monthly top acro submissions (include the topic). It acts like a newsfeed and cycles thru whatever acros land in the pile. Acrozilla has (or used to have) a very good model of how this would work. Hall of Fame across are a great learning tool for new players who are still at that 'deer in the headlight' stage of gameplay. Often times Hall of Fame acros are hilarious. Comedy is a great icebreaker for newbies (and seasoned players too). Again, it makes the game more identifiable and relatable (Hey, that's MY acro!). It creates a bond between players and the game and adds a personal touch to the gaming experience.

10/6/2025 6:17 PM | Hi Joe - not a holdout, just a matter of time. We used to have pictures. In 2012 Carlyle Group bought Getty Images and sent me a bill for $1200 because someone used one of their images as a profile pic (I think it was a duck with a purse). I spent $1500 on a lawyer to fight it, and won. But since then I have not turned them back on because I didn't want the hassle. I have no doubt that they would have sent me more bills if I had paid the first one, so the $1500 was well worth it. It's on the list for the new version, but not near the top.
I would love to turn this into something bigger but the numbers just aren't there. Speed bonus points and Hall of Fame are on the road map, just in case. |
